Guest Book
The Guest Book facility under our new web site hosted on myevent.com works similar to how it did under the old homestead.com hosted site. You just need to enter your name and an email address to post to the guest book. So feel free to post here as you used to do under the old site

The steps to making a post to the Guest Book are:
  1. Click on the "Add Your Guest Book Message" button.
  2. Compose your post in the resulting post composition box.
  3. Click the "Post to Guest Book" button below the post composition box.
Note, do not click again on the the "Add Your Guest Book Message" button. That will instead cancel your post.
Note: Guest book posts are subject to filtering which is trying to prevent spammers from posting advertisements to the site. That filtering will report that "something is missing or incorrect" and not allow you to submit your post.
  • Mainly, that filtering is trying to prevent any potential web address (URL) phrases like "xxx.com", "xxx.net" and the like from being included in the content of your post. Unfortunately, the filtering is rather agressive and reports the error in many cases where a period character is embedded within simple, non web address, character strings. Even a number reference like "3.5" has triggered the error.
  • So if you encounter a warning preventing you from submitting a post, look through the text of your post and remove or modify any web address like reference to something in words like "xxxdotcom" or "xxxdotnet". Or remove the embedded period within any other type of string that might contain one. For our number example above, the change from "3.5" to " 3 1/2" worked to avoid the error.

This is the third time I am posting about the sadness I feel about loosing another classmate and I am not having a very good time typing. I hope that it works this time. I am very happy that others have put up the message about Howard. I got through both messages and the box to click unto to send the message. I wasn't able to find it I looked at the box under the message I wrote to post it the guest book. Not sure I understand what happened, but extremely frustrating. I hope it works this time. My sadness about Howie is saying goodbye to a very good friend. Howie was my neighbor when we were kids. We had so much fun at the skating rink. Black Steads was the place we all got together. But I was always there and Howie and I would help plow the snow off the ice. We worked together and he taught me how to plow snow. To this day when I plow my snow I think of all the fun we had on that skating rink and I always will remember Howie and our friendship. So now as I have said with every class mate. Rest in Peace dear friend and we shall see you again in the final reunion in the sky. FLY FOREVER FREE DEAR FRIEND.

Walked by Howard Mackey's house every day on my way to school. Remember Howard as being a very nice, happy, some comical individual. Very likeable person to know. So sorry to hear of his passing but happy his suffering is over. A loss for his family, community, and classmates.

Classmates, we've lost our classmate Howard Mackey. Howard passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, with his loving wife by his side. He courageously fought and beat cancer three times before dementia took over. Our condolences to his family. Thanks to Alyce Lenzen for letting us know about Howard's passing. You can view Howard's obituary on our Memorials page by scrolling down to his entry. The entries are sorted by original last name. An announcement of his passing has been added to the Home page.

I have sad news again about a classmate that we had with us for only 2 two years at East possibly 9th and10th grade. Her name was Marion Burbal Cronin. Even though we don't have a photo of her and she didn't graduate with us Bobby Chase and myself remember her. Hope if you do remember her that you might come into the site with your remembrances if you can. There was a photo in the Telegram they had put up but I can't seem to find it at the all 3 funeral homes. I recognized her from the photo in the paper. She passed away on October 31st 2023 and November 12th 2023 her husband passed away. So sad. FLY FOERVER FREE MARION UNTIL WE ME AGAIN IN THE FINAL REUNION IN THE SKY.

Very nice tribute to Elyse, Sharon. It reminds me that I forgot to mention something in my earlier note about adding a Memorial for her. That is, under each Memorial there is a Tribute button which allows you to add your personal tribute/memory to the person's Memorial for others to see in the future. It's a nice place to share your fond memories of the classmate we've lost.

Hi Karen hope that you will make a reunion soon. How is your new apartment? Is it just as nice as you described it in your previous message to the Guest Book? In addition to Pat Wild Franzens message you have such an active life it will be great to see and talk to you in person so I am keeping my fingers crossed that you will make one of our reunions in the next 2 years. Folks, the following message is from Karin (Harmer) Hanson. She submitted it using the "Send this person a message" button on my earlier Guest Book Post about Larry's photo submissions. That is only is sent to me. Instead it would work better to submit a "Guest Book" post which gets distributed out to all folks for whom we have an email address. Here's Karen: Thank you Larry Strack for the photos you've added from the 2023 -- 58th East High Class Reunion !! Hopefully, I'll be able to make it next year ... But definitely for our 60th !!

Folks, the following message is from Pat (Wild) Franzen. She submitted it using the "Contact" page, which only is sent to me, the site administrator, instead of the "Guest Book" page which gets distributed out to all folks for whom we have an email address. I wanted you all to see it, so I am submitting it as a Guest Book post on Pat's behalf. Here's Pat: Such fun to see the FUN! Sadly, I do not recognize many faces. You need bigger nametags! I hope to be back for the 60th in 2025, Lord willing. I did not graduate with the Class of '65, but I was with the Nelson Dewey/Franklin crowd until Grade 11 when we moved to Iowa. I remember with great fondness my years in Superior. The North Woods remains a draw for me. I travel to the Rhinelander area with my Boy Scouts every so often. I'm an assistant scoutmaster for a female troop. I'm just now completing Wood Badge and having a blast. My granddaughter and I are honored to be OA Brotherhood and typically spend 20+ nights each year in our tents/hammocks in the forests. We earned Zero Hero last January when we spent 24 hours in the woods at Tomahawk Scout Reservation up there. It hit -7 that night. I know, I know... That's nothing to a true Superior dweller. :-) May you all enjoy a beautiful fall season. Blessings, P

Special thanks to Larry and Nancy for your photos and sharing them with us. To those who didn't come to this reunion, I am encouraging you classmates that how important it is to come to the next two years of reunion's especially those who haven't been to a reunion for awhile. We have lost forty nine classmates out of our one hundred seventy two classmates the we graduated with. It is just a joy to see and visit with everyone. Time is running out for all of us. It's understandable that some of you are not able to come for health reason's. Also those that live far away it's understandable. So if you can't come to the reunions come into the guest book and chat with us. We have such an awesome web site to enjoy let us know you are still interested that we have this format to stay in touch. Ok I am done now. So I will get off my soap box till next time. Love you all and hugs. PJ

Recently, a few folks who went to Oakland Grade School together gathered for an Oakland Grade School class reunion. A few photos from that gathering are now available under the "Various Memorabilia" page which can be accessed from the "Menu" option on the upper right of this page. Under the "Various Memorabilia" page you can find those photos by scrolling down to the "8-17-23 Oakland Grade School Class Reunion" photo album. For any of those that attended and might have additional photos for that gathering, you can upload those photos to the album using the "Upload Photos" button under the album.

We owe our thanks to Nancy Nordswen Hossalla for all those great reunion pictures that were just uploaded. My apologies to Nancy for being unable to determine who had uploaded them. At least one of the pictures of the whole group of attendees came from Larry. So he deserves our thanks for that. I believe Larry has a number of other photos that he plans to upload as well when he's finished reviewing them. So, likely there are more to come.

This is what I did to get the notice. I used Google on my A14 Samsung phone our url came up and I used that. I used numbers, dollar sign and cents. I tried a second time with removing the numbers and typed them like I did here in my posting on our site, and it still wouldn't except it. But as you see it worked here using my computer. Hope this explanation helps, if not you can call me and we can discuss it some more. I put it up here so that others can read this and help them to pay attention in how they submit there posting. very curious. PJ

Ok classmates and Bob, I have tried to post this message using my phone and it won't take it???? so here goes I will try it this way. Many thanks to Len Moreau for his donation to our fund. It was a big one. I offered to give Bob a refund to the payment he made to secure our new web site. But this is what he said. He didn't need it and to put the whole amount Len donated into our account. So we now have six hundred fifty nine and cents. Next time you see Len thank him for his donation. I thank you Len, hugs PJ

Greetings Class of '65! I am sad to miss the reunion this weekend. I've become very involved with Boy Scouts and serve as a leader. We have campouts often and this next one is going to be especially fun. Adult leaders are doing a float trip down the Merrimac (sp?) in MO. We will be kayaking, canoeing, rafting, swimming, hiking, whatever. Camping out two nights that weekend, cooking our own food, and generally having a blast! I'm hoping the weather is good so I can set up my camping hammock. In general, life is good! I'm still teaching adjunct at Bradley University when I feel like it. Taking fall term off as we have some travel plans and they wanted me to teach two courses. Nope! Too much like work. HA! I just finished teaching ecology at Fermilab all last week. Hotter than blazes, but still a great time. I'm happiest when I'm out in the natural world. I credit growing up in Superior for that love. I still enjoy fishing. Caught a 4 1/2 pound bass on a 6-pound test line in MO last May. I need to go down to my dock and pull out more bluegill, but they are so boring. I'm still involved with curriculum development at Fermilab. Some of my favorite projects were for Fermi, including the Energy and Ecosystems program I wrote. I've been associated with them for nearing 40 years. The dolphin program I wrote for Brookfield Zoo is a very close second. Is it any wonder that I aligned with BSA? Once a tomboy, always a tomboy I wish you all well! Hope you have a marvelous time next weekend. I'll shoot for our 60th in 2025 - OK? OMIGOSH! How can that be? I'd love to hear from some who may remember me. We moved in the spring term of our junior year, but I was Grade 1-11 with many of you. HAPPY REUNION! Blessings, P

Sorry to hear of Bob Hengels passing. We were best of friends starting with the basketball team at Franklin Junior High and all through High School. I spent several summer weekends with Bob and his family at their cabin on Middle Eau Claire Lake. Even after graduation there were weekends when Bob Jackson, myself and others would head down to Madison to visit Bob and his roommate Jim Nelson at UW. They'd put us up in their dorm room after a night of partying on State Street or at the Bunny Hop out in Middleton. I hadn't seen him for quite a while but we would talk on the phone regularly in recent years and it was always good to share lots of great memories, some of which were so much fun that they are probably best left unsaid at this point. He was a good friend and will be missed.

The older I get the more my mind does a life review with snippets of conversations or events that often include you folks. Remember them announcing JFK assassination…I was in German class. I’ll turn 76 tomorrow….probably my last birthday. I’ve battled breast cancer off and on for 29 years and now I’m at the end as it’s in my spine. I feel pretty good most days but it’s gaining on me. I’ve had a great life with three kids, 8 grands and 3 great grands and for 35 years the best man I’ve known for a partner. I’ve been a nurse and foster mom and had good friends…can’t ask for more. I miss my buddy Carla and we were in daily contact her last two years…we talked a lot about high school….she could remember so many things I’d forgotten about. Thanks to any of you who remember me fondly. I’ll eventually see you all and we’ll have a great reunion.????

So Sorry for the news about Bob Hengel prayers for him. I also have a message to Nancy Nordswen. Dale was looking into Barkers Island again for this year and I think it would be best if we keep the yearly place we meet at the same place each year to help people remember. Haven't heard from him yet but will check with him. But my suggestion Nancy is this you will need to see how many people that the restaurant can handle. And how much it would cost to rent. If it could be a place for the 2025 Reunion. How much would it cost for the class or per person. Our normal amount of people for our yearly meeting is about 30 for annual meetings and up to 60 or more for the for a mail out invitation for our 60th reunion. Thank you for your suggestion and anymore info you can find out. The other option was on the table for the Log Cabin for the 60th. If I remember correctly that cost to meet there was free but a charge for food. Not sure anymore it's been a while since we looked into the Log Cabin. Thanks again Nancy.

A few folks have inquired privately about our reunion gathering this summer. To try to let folks know the current status, I'm reposting Pat's earlier, 4/24/23, update here below. She posted that prior to my adding Guest Book support for automatically sending new postings to all folks for whom we have a verified email address. Hopefully, this reposting will get the status out to most of you. Here's Patty Little's post from 2023-04-24 at 12:22: Hi everyone the date for the yearly reunion is Friday the 4th of August. Just talked with Dale and he is still in California but he will be back soon. He then will see if we can have our date for this year. If not we will find a place for that date. So stay tuned to the guest book and we will let you all know where we will meet. But the date will stay the same.

Bob, you're certainly right that current times wouldn't see a caption like that for Bob Hengel showing up anymore without causing a lot of trouble. Fortunately, Bob Hengel's caption wasn't prophetic. That is, I believe he has some children. On a related note, our class site home page still lists Bob as "in the care of assisted living with memory issues." Is that still the case? Do you have any updated information on how he is doing? He was such a great guy. I can still see that cheerful smile of his which seemed to be ever present.

That being said our snow here in Solon is melting fast and I am happy about that. My Iris's are poking thru the ground an that too is a good sign. "Merry Christmas to all of my East High Class of 1965 Graduates!!!!" I just wanted to make it a point to wish all of you a 'Merry Christmas for 2022' and for all of us to 'welcome in' 2023!! Let's hope that the year 2023 is going to be a MUCH better year for all of us than the past three years have been due to the pandemic. For me, there's going to be a MAJOR change as I'm going to be moving OUT of the New Perspective Senior Living facility where I've resided for the past five (5) years and into a brand new independent apartment complex which is going to be located where the old St. Joseph's Childrens' Home used to be at the very beginning of February, 2023. My new apartment is going to be located on the Fifth Floor so I'm going to have a tremendous view of Lake Superior after living for over 50+ years near Lake Michigan!! And I'll also have a gorgeous view of the Duluth ski hills although I've never been much of a skiier due to the severe 'crushing break' that I suffered in the summer of 2017 of my left foot and ankle. But now I've TOTALLY recovered from that injury and I'm walking totally independent again and it's now time for me to 'fly on my own' which I'm very anxious to have happen in the very near future. After reviewing all of the many classmates who've already passed away, I think it's time that each one of us cherish the lives that we've been given and vow to remain healthy and happy for the years we have left. I hope to see many of you at our class reunion this summer in August. Due to being an 'insulin dependent diabetic for many years and having another serious medical situation that I have to deal with, I've been labeled as 'immunocompromised' and I've had to be very careful not to contract the Covid-19 Virus but hopefully things will have settled down more this summer and I'll be able to become re-aquainted with many of you 'in person' again this year. Each one of you 'take care and stay safe' in whatever you have going on in each one of your lives and be sure to 'keep in touch' here on our East High '65 Website!! Karin (Harmer) Hanson

I would like to wish all of my "old" classmates a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, it's 26 degrees this morning in The Villages, Florida, fortunately it's not snowing. As I think back of my youth in East End Superior the memory of how the East End business area was decorated for Christmas with trees and lights on each street light and how Eddie Meyers, who owned the radio and TV repair shop, would pipe Christmas music that filled the downtown area. In my youth I always took this for granted, but now as I think back I realize what a special memory this created for me. Wishing everyone a happy and HEALTHY New Year.

Here's wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. This is one of my favorite times of the year. Getting together with family and friends to celebrate is what makes this time so special. It was certainly nice to see everyone at the reunion this past August. I had been 30+years since I've seen many of my classmates. In some ways it seemed like no time had passed at all, just spending time with old friends and familiar faces. Congrats on the new website, very impressive. Hoping everyone has a happy and healthy 2023.

Hi you all so want to congratulate cousin Bob on his incredible talents to get this new web site up and going. Thank you Bob for the recognition of my long time being your host to our past web site. It all started in 2005 when I agreed to set up our web site. We were using Dale's brother-in-law web site with Homestead. I had only just got a computer and didn't know a dang thing about what I was doing. But I learned as I went along. Now it is 2022 and I am happy to hand over the reins to Bob who is a wizard at this techy stuff. I m grateful to him for giving me the opportunity to step aside and let the master take over. Thank you all for your support over the years with all my typo errors. Carla was my helper with that, she is gone to the heavens now and I will still thank her for all her help along the way. Miss getting on the phone with her now and then to catch up. But someday we will be able to catch up again. I would also like to put out there that we still need more money in our Reunion Fund. We will need to have more funds coming in. Bob has footed the $ 300 to pay for this new site and which will cover the next 3 years so we won't have to be concerned about that for awhile. We have $294.70 in our account which is a good start for upcoming reunions. But we need to pay Bob for fronting the web site right now. We will be closing our account with Homestead and be getting some reimbursement from them which will help put some more money back into our account. So you can continue to send money to me and I will get it into our account. Or you can also send money to Dale Trolson as well because he is also the second person on our account. So in closing this lengthy message I want to say thank you to all of you with your kind words about the work that I have done for all these years. It was a work of fun and frustration at times because I didn't know what I was doing some of the time. I'm not going anywhere just more in the background. So enjoy this new website and use it often it's a good one. I think it will be easier for everyone to use. For now hugs PJ

Note: The following was submitted separately through a Contact Form submission by Al. I thought it was nice to here from Al and thought others might like to see it to. So I'm posting this to the Guest Book on Al's behalf. Bob Beethcher Hi, just want to commend you guys on your outstanding work on this website!! Especially you, Pat, for your longevity, dedication, energy, and competence in the execution of this project!! My gawd!!, WHAT an achievement!! Happy to see that Mr. Bob has entered the fray to contribute as well. GOOD for you, BOB!! I enjoy window shopping thru th’Past from time to time and the bios and updates are often interesting and/or sad. Nonetheless, most ALL of our class of ‘65 has a definite place in my dwindling memory and heart. Quite extraordinary piece of time those mid/late ‘60’s, I know they slapped me around and around. I’m wondering if’n it’d be possible to put names t’th’faces on those spectacular reunion photos. I know, more WORK!?!? Just a thought. We’ve all gone through the cycle (cyclone!) of ch-ch-ch-changes and for us straggler’s it’d be a wonderful gesture. ??????? One o dese days I hope to shake hands with each n’every one of the Grand Reunion attendees. Until dat time I remain internetly yours, ~~~al Thanks again for your stellar performances!!!
