Elise's Obituary
Elise Eydith Barnard, 76, lifelong resident of Superior passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. She was born in Superior on November 8, 1946, the daughter of Ford and LaVera (Norland) Reid.
She was united in marriage to Walter Barnard on February 11, 1965, at Christ Lutheran Church in Superior, and they celebrated forty-five years of marriage before his passing in 2010.
Together, Elise and Walter owned and operated several businesses in Superior over the years.
Elise was a kind and forgiving soul with a giver’s heart. She was an artist in her own rite and enjoyed making dolls, crafting, quilting, crocheting, woodworking, and sewing and was especially partial to lace. Over the years she crafted many gifts personalized for her family and friends.
Elise loved Elvis! As a special treat her beloved husband, Walter once sold 500 tickets to the community to secure an Elvis impersonator to perform at the Belgian Club here in Superior. She was a voracious reader and, in her younger years, read quite a collection of Harlequin Romance novels.
Elise loved her coffee and cigarettes. She loved to laugh and was a loud and boisterous presence in the lives of her family.
She is lovingly remembered by her family for her strength of spirit, her tenacity, and her uncanny ability to navigate and persevere through life and will be fondly remembered for saying: “well babydoll, you have two choices - you can laugh, or you can cry, and I prefer to laugh”.
She will be dearly missed by her three sons, Randy (Annette) Barnard, of San Diego, CA, and their children, Joshua, and Ethan; Kelly (Hollie) Barnard, of Superior, and his children, Cody, and Jordan; and Joey (Christine Ruch) Barnard, currently of Cincinnati, OH; five great-grandchildren, and her brother, Charles Reid, of International Falls, MN.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter; her parents; sister, Katarina “Katie” Schwartz, and brother, Robert Reid.
A private family burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Superior.
The Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street, Superior, is assisting the family with arrangements. To leave a condolence or sign the guestbook, please visit www.lenroot-maetzold.com.
